Why haven't basketball being a bigger sports in Europe?

I've always assume that basketball should have been a very popular sports in European countries today but over the years it haven't seen to happen like that.

Why do you think basketball isn't thriving in Europe?

The only reason I can think of is because basketball is not majorly an European sports which is the reason why they are not paying so much attention to it like they do to football.
