But the Mavs do not have to pay Amare the 23 million, only the Knicks do.
I'm not sure the exact terms of the buyout with the Knicks, but he'll only be playing for the minimum salary for Dallas, as they are over the cap. And with that in mind, Amare is GREAT value as an offensive big who can provide an extra scoring punch for a contender. While I don't think he's a piece that puts them over the top, he's certainly someone who can make an impact and potentially win a game for Dallas in the playoffs. That's a valuable piece off the bench.
I think he will have a great impact on the team because the Mavs are deep team and championship contenders. They have two go-to-guys in Dirk and Eliis, with many role players and other supporting players. Adding Amare in the mix will definitely be a boost to the team. The Spurs are also eyeing on him as another piece for their championship team. Amare should definitely go to these two teams in which, he will be a role player and have less pressure than he was in the Knicks with Carmelo as both the superstars.
