SALT LAKE CITY (November 4, 2013) – The Utah Jazz will honor members of the United States Armed Forces and thank them for their service at Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Ford, on Monday, Nov. 11 when the Jazz hosts the Denver Nuggets at EnergySolutions Arena at 7 p.m. as part of NBA Cares Hoops for Troops.
“Honoring our armed forces at a Utah Jazz game is a small way of showing our appreciation to the sacrifices they make every day,” said Utah Jazz President Randy Rigby. “We are thankful for the service, bravery and commitment of those in the armed forces and their families.”
All active, reserve or retired military personnel who provide a valid military identification are eligible for a free ticket at the EnergySolutions Arena box office. Military personnel may also purchase additional seats for their families for just $10.
A handheld American flag will be given to each fan entering the arena in recognition of Veterans Day. A Jazz player will address the crowd prior to the game. The pregame ceremony will include the performance of the national anthem by a group from Hill Air Force Base and the presentation of the colors by the United States Marine Corps.
Each branch of the military will be honored during the game with the Armed Forces Medley. A “Thank You Veterans” story will debut on the new videoboard system. Military-themed entertainment will occur during the game.
NBA Cares Hoops for Troops is a year-round initiative led by the NBA, its teams and players in collaboration with the Department of Defense, USO and other military and veteran serving organizations to honor active and retired service men and women and their families. Throughout the Veterans Day recognition on Nov. 7-11, NBA players will wear special on court apparel, including adidas shooting shirts, headbands, wristbands and socks to commemorate the holiday. Coaches will also wear NBA Cares Hoops for Troops lapel pins.
Recently Jazz players John Lucas III, Richard Jefferson and Williams along with Jazz Bear and America First Jazz Dancers hosted about 45 members of families from deployed Utah National Guard members in a bowling and pizza party at Fat Cats Bowling in Salt Lake City.
